Astonishing Twins Thursday, May 4, 2006

Today i got an email from a friend about this twins. Whats very surprising about them as you can see in the pic below, is that the two little girls are different coloured – one white and the other black!

A mixed-race British mom has given birth to twins – one of each. No, not a boy and a girl, two girls – one black, the other white. The odds of such a birth are about a million to one, experts said. "It was a shock when I realized that my twins were two different colors," Kylie Hodgson, 19, told London's Daily Mail. "But it doesn't matter to us – they are just our two gorgeous little girls." Hodgson and her partner, Remi Horder, 17, were both born to mixed-race parents. Little Kian and Remee share a love of apples and the Teletubbies, their proud mom says. Fertility experts speculate that a sperm containing all-white genes fused with an egg with all-white genes, and a sperm with all-black genes fused with an all-black gene egg to produce the fraternal twins.

I predict that this will be less odd when more and more mixed race people make children. Only one or two of the most recent generations are able to have those mixed relations as only one or two generations ago a lot of white and black/brown people got into relations.

This also reminds me of findings of black and white family members of America’s past slave traders, there you see white and black/brown people being born in in both white and black braches of their family tree.

This tells me that genetically there is no preference over whatever color and that place of birth over many, many generations will change that preference under outside circomstances (the sun).

WOW, that’s wild, and kindda cool πŸ™‚

3. REISKA - Thursday, May 11, 2006

“I predict that this will be less odd when more and more mixed race people make children. ”

LOL. Brillant!

5. Duke Ionescu - Thursday, May 11, 2006

Maybe this will finally drive the point home that color doesn’t matter. The twins look great!

6. jamshaid - Thursday, May 11, 2006

"color doesn’t matter" excellent Duke, well said.

7. kriz - Thursday, May 11, 2006

kewl!

Looking at the parents and the girl on the left, it’s too difficult to believe that the other one is her sister – and a twin!

8. AntiLemming - Thursday, May 11, 2006

It is true that color doesn’t matter, but this particular story is a hoax. The girls in the photo are at least 5 months old. If this were true, the photos would have been of them at 5 days old – not 5 months. Plus look at the source – “Today i got an email from a friend about this twins.”
Come on – how many hoaxes are perpetrated through email with no valid research sources. Just about all of them. Add another to the list.

9. paul - Thursday, May 11, 2006

AntiLemming, googled about it and found some more sources which looks pretty much valid to me.

The Daily Mail – London
ABC News

Can I have some wine w/ all that cheeze?

11. Linda O'Brien - Thursday, May 11, 2006

As Michael Jackson sang:

But, If You’re Thinkin’ About My Baby
It Don’t Matter If You’re Black Or White

God Bless them. They are beautiful

12. Shimoga - Thursday, May 11, 2006

More astonishing for me is the young age of the parents – in a developed & educated country like U.K!

13. AntiLemming - Thursday, May 11, 2006

Thx Paul – guess I could have done that too. Of course, wikipedia should always be taken with a heaping of salt, but you have two other credible sources. I stand corrected.
(Still pretty unbelievable.) πŸ™‚

14. alec - Thursday, May 11, 2006

what’s amazing is the hair — blonde is becoming rarer and rarer these days! and in a situation like this with two mixed parents, a rare gene to exhibit itself!

17. Tara - Thursday, May 11, 2006

I love it! What beautiful little girls they are. Mu father is black and Native American and my mother is white, my husband is mixed white and Japanese. Our daughter is a beautiful mix of ethnicities. I am thrilled to see that more and more mixed couples are having even more mixed up babies. It’s always a wonderful surprise to see how they turn out!

that is such a beautiful picture. i think its pretty cool that something like that could happen. its amazing.

33. Dee - Thursday, May 18, 2006

I was concerned about the ages of the parents too, but as long as the babies were born healthy and happy and they take good care of them, then it’s fine. Those babies are so adorable.

Has anyone heard of the story below? Very similar issue about the wonders of genetics and heredity.
